Megavalanche is a marathon-type mountain bike race. The most famous and widely attended tour takes place in the vicinity of Alpe D’Huez, a small city in the Alps. The race starts at an altitude of 3 300 m at Pic Blan and finishes at the bottom of the Allemont valley. Yes, you calculated the difference in altitude correctly — it is indeed more than 2 000 m! The actual race track is a mere 30 km. Another curious aspect of the race is that it takes place in the so-called Chinese Downhill format. In other words, it is not one, but all participants, that start at the same time, which reminds us that Milan described the race as being brutish. What did he have to say several days before the beginning of Megavalanche?
How do you feel as a participant in Megavalanche?
The anticipation of what’s to come is great. I have the motivation and can’t wait to get going. And it’s quite natural because I’ve been dreaming of racing at Megavalanche for a long time now. I am curious to find out what it’s like to have so many people on so many bikes gathered and poised to race down from the extreme altitude of 3 300 m. This truly is the most extreme mountain bike race in the world. I have to say that I’m feeling the adrenalin rush already….
How are you getting ready for the competition and what does prepping essentially involve?
Preparation has several aspects, including making arrangements for the trip, finding accommodation and filming the race. Another aspect was finding financial or product support (including the campaign and fund raising on Indiegogo). The third major aspect naturally concerns getting into top physical form.
Are you going to make any modifications to the bike you will use in the competition?
The good news is that Maxbike supported me in the endeavour with a new Enduro bike for which I am incredibly grateful. The downhill bike is not the best solution for this type of race, because it is essentially a type of a downhill marathon.
How does RooBar help you in the competition?
In more ways that I can count. In addition to replenishing my energy for any extreme endeavour I decide to approach, you have made my dream of taking part in Megavalanche possible and it is now a reality.
What are your expectations?
I expect to, metaphorically speaking, land on a different planet and put my abilities and those of the bike to an extreme test, along with meeting many new people (hotheads and adventure seekers such as myself) and FINSHING the race in one piece, hopefully among the top performers.
What would you like to say to those watching and cheering for you?
I will keep them posted so that they know what’s happening as it happens and how we’re doing. Luckily for me, I’ll have Uzunovmedia with us and they will take care of all aspects of media coverage. To all those who made it possible for me to go to Megavalanche, I would like to say that I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have one of my longest-held dreams come true. I love you!
We’re all keeping our fingers crossed for Milan and look forward to his start!
